i have rented a U-Haul open trailer twice to tow my SPF about 300 mi one way . car fit on the trailer fine, just had to remove the license plate on the trailer for the car to clear. i have only 3-1/2" clearance under the bellhousing and that was not an issue either. trailer is heavy so adequate two vehicle is needed, which u-haul mandates if you and they are honest as to what you are using. i had a navigator so no problem with gvw ratings and their requirements . surge brakes only, not electric, but they worked well. trailer tracked well up to 65 mph in strong winds on interstate. i did not push it beyond 65 mph . dont use a car cover and tonneau is iffy as it will blow and flap. if you use a tonneau protect the body/paint area underneath the tonneau to stop any abrasions/marring. you will most likely get some stone chips from tow vehicle, but i had some there already. the car was listed by u-haul as a a/c cobra on their website when i made renting arrangements. some folks have been able to rent enclosed trailers too, i was never able to find one. goodluck in your search. bill.
