Turk is right. If it's your turn it's YOUR TURN. It took me about an hour and a half back in 2003. It was the first year for previously registered cars and 1578 was something new. Be polite but be insistant. Tell them you will be happy to wait while they get through. Offer to wait on hold for them. (the numbers come from Sacramento via telephone, or at least they did 2 years ago)... But don't leave the DMV without your number.
