Default Sb100 Alert; All 500 Numbers Will Be Gone Early Tomorrow!!!

I got 2005-455 at right around 4:55 today after a full day battle at the Los Gatos DMV. I arrived at 8am for my appt. and left at 1pm, then returned at 4:30 after they failed to "keep trying and call me on my cell" as promised. Had I not returned...

The official DMV website says 90 numbers left. It was updated sometime toward the end of the shift today (4:40?). If they're allocating in sequence (other threads seem to suggest this is the case), there are actually more like 40 (or less) numbers left for tomorrow morning if I got #455 at 4:55 pm. Here's hoping she wasn't reading the clock. LOL.

I advise anyone desperate for a 2005 SB-100 number head to Sacramento and be first in line tomorrow morning. I.E. Pretend you're 15 and it's a KISS concert. There will be no time for phones tomorrow. Gone by Noon is conservative. I bet they are gone by 9AM.

In addition, anyone holding a 2004 (or earlier) SB-100 number; be advised. I was told today by a DMV manager on the other end of the line (when the folks at the LG DMV finally manged to make a connection), that I needed a 2005 SB-100 to guarantee completion of my registration under the SB-100 law. The practice of the smog referee appointment desk allowing a previous calendar year SB-100 number is considered a "Liberal" practice, and subject to change. She knew I held 2004-162, and they allocated 2005-455 to me due to this belief. This seems ridiculous; I agree. Look into it; answers vary. Currently, the smog referee appt. desk is accepting 2004 and older SB-100 numbers and people are getting things processed without a hitch. I hope this stays the same, but DMV just suggested to me that it MAY NOT...so be forewarned.

Grim news, sorry.

Byron
