No problem registering an Excalibur in ANY state. There are no different than any GM or Ford or whatever car. There are Federally approved and recognized as the actual year they are built.
The bad news:
The have to meet all the smog laws for the year they were built. IF you keep the car as delivered from the manufacturer, no problem. Excals DO have smog pumps, catalytic converters, etc.
When I bought my Excal the PRIMARY reason was because at that time there was NO WAY to register a "Cobra" here in Hawaii. That FACT added a LOT of value to the Excal and when I sold it later that was a HUGE factor in being ABLE to sell it.
We now have a legal means of registering a replica in Hawaii. However the new owner of my old Excal will NOT sell the car because he KNOWS he can take it ANYWHERE and legally register it. It IS totally legal in California and requires nothing based on new or old laws.
In fact I was able to get insurance and could FINANCE it at a bank because it is actually listed in a special "Kelly Blue Book" and thus recognized as a "manufactured" car. NO WAY it should be considered a "kit" of any kind and should NEVER be called a "Cobra". It is an Excalibur JAC 427 model.
To some that legal registration is like gold, it was to me!
