It has more to do with temp. dewpoint and condensation. All of which happen all around you all the time. It's the thing that happened when you were 16 and learned where the best places to "park" were, just on a larger scale.

In modern automobiles and some not so modern the heather and even a defroster make it a non issue. Different climates get it at different times of the year.

If it annoys you install a working heater / ventalation system. in your car. Driving with the lights on will stop it in all most all instances provided you have lighted gauges.
