When you do it under SB-100, they don't care at all about the engine as the owner decides what he is going to use, body style or engine. Most use the body style which takes the engine out of play except to generate the bar code. What has caused this big discussion, is there are no longer enough SB-100 numbers to even cover a fraction of the people needing one. Also when it first started, there was no SB-1578 and that cut way down on applications for the numbers as they could only be used on newly constructed vehicles. That is why they lasted so long the first year.
