Actually that is the Hell's acre area of Mt. Lassen which is our active volcano 60 Miles East of here. There are areas of boiling mud and a huge area of sulpheric steam that comes up all the time. They have built walk ways where you can walk through some of the sulpher works area and it stinks so bad you wouldn't believe it. You try to avoid the steam. Every year it seems a few idiots have to show off and get off the walk ways and that is the end of them. There is just a light crust over most of that area and they walk a few steps and break through right into the boiling water and mud and some lava. The same with the mud pots.They are nothing but boiling mud that bubbles and burps and it is instant death to fall into them. Mt. Shasta which is about the same distance North of me is considered active, but you hardly ever see any steam from it.
