Yesterday after driving the Devils backbone section of the tcc event we missed the turn back into wimberly thinking 3237 was just ahead. 3 miles later we pull over to the side of the road to assess the situation. Another cobra pulled over with us. Luckily they had a map. While we were pulled over I used this time to get out and stretch. I walk about 15 feet toward this fence line. All the sudden I hear this rustling noise at my feet. To my surprise it's a 3 foot long rattlesnake. Initially it bolted directly away from me. But at about 6 foot away it turned and stopped and started coming back towards me. This is when I swiftly got back to the car. Announcing I had just had a rattlesnake encounter. Everyone thought it would be a good time to hit the road.The wife even got to hear the rattle. I wished I had gotten a pic. I figure the snake was easily within striking distance of my exposed calves. I could have been bitten. Do you think this snake took it into consideration that I was attending an event honoring one of the worlds greatest snakes-The COBRA? I think so.
