Michael, I will give you my two cents. I would say it depends on how your engine is built and what kind of driving you do.
Mine had (2) 750 Holleys on a single-plane intake. 3.54 rear and CR toploader. First on a CR is tall in comparison to a WR. The single-plane is supposed to be less drivable.
I did not find the car to be unstreetable. Mine needed to idle at 1100, which I found to be the best all-around setting to keep the plugs clean. It did not like to sit idling for any length of time.
I did not buy the car to be a daily driver--it was meant to run and Lord how it liked to run way out on the back roads of San Diego county.
I found the car to be quite drivable. It would drive up a 15 mile hill like Palms to Pines in 4th gear at 2500 all day long. Could loaf along without loading up the plugs. Could stay in 4th gear most of the time.
But, it was instantly responsive. No lag, no lull. Came on the cam about 3300 and ran well past 6500. Revved very freely. My cam was in the neighborhood of .580 lift. THis cam combined with the TL and rear combo generally always had me at around 3000--in my mind, that contributed to the drivability.
Mine was unstroked, and as I said it revved very freely. I have heard from others with tps, that more inches further aids drivability. Mike Braun built a big-inch tp and says it will idle all day long yet produces outrageous hp.
I liked my car; it was different. Not for everyone. Not a daily driver. Not the easiest car to drive. But, it was a good car and I think it is a good choice if your driving takes you on longer cruises with room to run. Stoplight to stoplight, there would be better choices.
Your cam choice, trans and rear combo have something to do with it too.
