I guess I have to remove the tank to get to the wires for testing. I wonder if my wires are even hooked up to the sending unit/gauge. I have some wires tie wrapped around the filler neck and if you follow them toward the front of the car they are just stop and are not connected to anything.

In removing the tank did you just put a floor jack under it and disconnect the filler neck and 4 bolts and let it drop down?

I will use my electric fuel pump to pump it emty.

I will take some pictures when I get it out for future reference.
