If you're tired of using road maps, get a GPS. If you're tired of being caught in traffic on the Interstate, get a GPS (accident). If you're tired of filling up in one state when 30 minutes later you could buy the gas for 10 cents less, get a GPS. It's always nice to know where you are but also nice to know what's ahead and on either side.
But, if you're only verifying a speedometer error, borrow a GPS or get a used one (GARMIN II, etc.).
I got one because I constantly get lost and can't ask for directions.
