Four built so far
I will go back and look at who got the first four we had. One I know went to a customer as a bare machined block. One we built complete and went into like the 8th Kirkham built, we dyno tested that engina and installed in the car at our other shop. We then tuned it on the chassi dyno and drove for several days before we delivered it. That car went back to Georgia with the owner and everything seems to be fine. One of the blocks is going in a new Kirkham that the customer got about a couple of months ago. I can not think of where the fourth block went but I will see if I can.
The blocks are the stock height with the same oiling system as the original side oiler. The blocks come with a 4.240 size sleeve where we can hone with torque plates to 4.250 size or you can bore up to 4.310. We finish the cam journals, main journals to size in house. All other dimensions are checked when machined. The blocks have 5 steel billet main caps with 7/16 cross bolts. You can build engines in size from 431C.I. to 510C.I. depending on the stroke and bore combination.
The way that we check these blocks I have no problem standing behind the finish product as we do with all of our products. All of the original 427 demensions are used and all of the original peices will bolt on as well as the aftermarket peices.
I have worked with Robert Pond for over 20 years on his NHRA national record holding A/S Fairlane. I worked with him very closely on these blocks to cover all of the issues we felt needed to be done to make a nice block. He originally started out wanting cast iron blocks for his and others NHRA race cars because good originals were hard to find and would not take the power we are now making. We have done a few of the cast iron blocks with more coming but I told him there was a big market for the aluminum blocks as well so he decided to make them as well. Hope this helps a little. Thanks, Keith Craft
