Which way does the coolant flow, into or out of the intake manifold??

I'm installing the electric fan thermostat and I think that I want to measure the temp of the water coming out of the motor, not going into it. The temp gauge sender is already taking up the hole in the manifold, so I was going to use the hole in the water neck, or in a fitting in the lower radiator hose depending on flow direction.

On second thought maybe I want to mount it to measure the temp of the water coming out of the radiator to see if there is enough air flow with out the fan.......
