A very talented and professional gent known as "Morris", who posts here, is doing just such a project which he is "blogging" over on Gasholes.
He is virtually re-inventing the car ( and he's starting with a KMP to answer your first question), for severe track hardcore performance.

To answer your second question, he IS sharing and codeveloping chassis and drivetrain with Bros. K and McCloed who are eagerly cooperating so some of this high-level engineering is already trickling down to "our" consumer level. KMP's have had several suspension upgrades due to his work already.
A very interesting and praise-worthy project which he is generously sharing for no financial gain but purely our gearhead benefit.
Reading Morris' work always makes me want to go into the garage and burn my car to the ground...
