You are right, there are quite a lot of cars with MUCH more than 400 HP and no problems with the IRS. I know one guy here in St Louis that Dynos 560-HP and 720 ft/lbs-Torque with a 100-shot of Nitrous, and he is still running on the stock IRS. Still the stock half-shafts. Now, granted, he is running on borrowed time right now running the numbers he is doing, but, if you are not planning on running the car on the dragstrip and doing NHRA launches, then the stock IRS can handle quite a bit of power.
