That may be true, but keep in mind many of those cars don't weigh 2200 lbs dripping wet. That in itself makes a huge difference in how well drivetrain components hold up.
I've talked to several builders that run 800 hp torque monsters on the 8.8 IRS and have no problems.
I wouldn't want to use it for drop-the-clutch drag launches either, but I wouldn't have any problem with any other use for it short of that. Even occasional drag use shouldn't be a real problem- however if it is, harder axles can be had for around $300-400 to take care of that issue.
