How's this for an engine?
Does it sound like it could be a good engine if I changed the cam for a hydraulic item with a smooth idle?
Thanks
Simon
DWP 500 bhp 408 stroker engine built by DW Performance.
It is a 351 windsor block stroked to 408.
This engine can be authenticated by David himself as the history of this engine is totaly traceable, its not an engine that’s had loads of goodies put on it and then just see how it goes, this engine is built from carefully chosen and modified parts to achieve serious horse power and dyno tested until the correct performance and figures are achieved, this means this engine is properly set up to optomise every possible bhp and torque figure.
This engine has been fitted to a few cars in the past 1800 miles of its life and the last owner removed it simply because it scared him whilst it was in his mustang, im not joking this is a real serious motor.
David himself has told me that to build the same spec engine today would cost in excess of 10,000 pounds, he still builds this engine spec today but uses alloy heads as instead of the Dart cast heads it has on it now, but the power to weight ratio means the difference in weight is not worth concidering ( unless you have more money than sense that is )
It is currently sitting on my engine stand with a head taken off one side, this was done because so many people were saying " how do I know it has the internals its supposed to have " I indeed asked the same ?’s when I bought it, so I have taken the engine down to inspect the internals of the engine and to ensure everything is as it should be and to show you off its internal parts. I will of course reasemble the engine.
it is a small block with more than big block power.
It also comes with some options, it has at present a alloy flywheel with a heavy duty padel centre force clutch so a top loader can be used, I don’t have the gearbox but I can get a 3 speed toploader should you wish cheaply, you would then require a belhousing and shifter of which i also know where these parts can come from cheaply.
the other option is i have had rebuilt a C4 auot street and strip gearbox, this was built by a drag racer who indeed used this very gearbox so I know it is good, it has a high output pump ( standard one is a little fragile ) and heavy duty race bands installed, I have the flex plate and spacers required to fit this gearbox should you wish, the gearbox just needs painting of which I will probably do shortly.
It also comes with a jag rear axle which is complete apart from calipers, it does have new brake disc’s and will need reasembly, it has two diffs, one is a low ratio diff for very quick exceleration and one is for crusing dependant on what you wish to achieve. One diff is rebuilt with new bearings etc, the other diff isnt rebuilt but is in good condition ( I used to build diff and gearbox’s for a living and I have inspected the diff and its fine ( requires a clean and a paintjob )
It also comes with a set of tubular headers, mild steel but in very good condition and built purposley to be able to install this engine in a small engine bay, ie AC cobra, hot rod, mustang, kit car and so on,
