James,

Morris is using the dual disks and a hydraulic TO bearing. He posts a lot on the gasholes site. I don't know if he has a feel for the clutch as he is just getting to that point. As a side note; my engine is similar to yours in power (yours just revs higher as it is a solid and mine is a hydraulic) and I haven't had any problems with clutch slipping (other than tires). I'm using the dual friction 12 in McCleod clutch with a external slave. I had the slave re-sleeved to reduce the bore to .75 in and it works perfect. More than enough travel. Of course, I had the slave done by Whitepost Restorations so it costs as much as a hydraulic TO bearing, but it is guaranteed for life.
