Actually, I did things totally bass-ackwards tax-wise (my s.o.p.) that is to say, retired to Oregon from Washington. WA has no income tax, OR has no sales tax (both states, depending on where you live, have killer prop taxes). The smart people live in WA close to the OR border and do all their shopping in OR. This is why the Vancouver/Battle Ground, WA areas just over the river from Portland are growing like weeds. Mike's suggestion of the development north of astoria seems to fit this "tax-smart" profile. I'd look into that!
