I had the set up you mentioned and used the K + N filter top and side.
There was just enough clearance if you use a dropped base under the filter.
This photo is from page three (3) of the gallery. Taken prior to the Cobra being painted. I have just replaced the manifold with an Edelbrock Performer so will try and user the new Cobra oval unit and new Cobra Rocker covers.
