xlr8or's right.

You will need to go the BAR to have them determine/confirm the year of your block, and they will be able to tell you exactly what it needed to make it "pass smog". Besides the visual exam (PCV, etc...), it will also need to pass the "snif" test.

If getting it to pass smog for year of the block becomes too difficult, then you can always stand in line on Jan 2 for a Sequence Number.
