We certainly ended up having a wonderful ride in great weather accompanied by other Cobra cars, however, it had little to do with any gathering in Stowe!

The bride had contacted the inn and was told the Cobra tour would be departing the facility about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. We promptly arrived at 11:00 a.m. to be told the touring Cobras had left at 9:30 a.m.!! We were instructed as to the intended route (which proved to be wrong) and headed out on a reverse course to intercept the Cobra Caravan. Upon departing we encountered another Vermont Cobra (Blue CR) who also had been provided the 11:30 a.m. departure time. After driving eighty miles trying to intercept the departed Cobras we had not seen even one sun glint off a chrome roll bar nor any other sign of the group.

Stopping for a delightful lunch we made several cell phone calls and determined that two more of our Cobra friends had arrived at the inn to find the place bereft of Cobras and factual information. We gave them driving instructions to our Vermont home. We returned to the inn and encountered the blue CR Cobra again. It was driven by Marve who resides in Worcester Vermont. He had seen no sign of other Cobras and had also been provided conflicting directions/information.
Another spot of lunch (urp) with these delightful folks and we departed about 3:00 p.m. towards our Vermont mountain retreat. On the way home we stopped in Eden, Vermont to get gas after we saw two more snakes sitting at the service station. It turned out they were our Cobra friends from Quebec. They also had been given faulty instructions as to departure times and the tour route.

We joined company and motored back to our home to find two more Cobras sitting in the drive…as per the earlier cell phone calls.

In short, on Sunday the five snakes toured northern New Hampshire and Maine in beautiful weather and we eventually escorted our Canadian brethren to their border crossing and home. A great gathering that was dimmed only by the boondoggle of the previous day.

I have long looked forward to bringing my newly restored 67 XKE roadster to the British Car Invasion this year…..I’m rethinking those plans…
