Interesting to hear that I had problems with those FM race mains. I have them in my pair of 505 FEs with no problems. One made 712HP and was featured in Hot Rod a year or so ago (when it was a touch weaker at 676), the other was in my recent Engine Master Challenge entry which made 752HP.

As far as I know they are still available as part number 125M. Only problem is that you can't get any -1s to tighten up clearances - and some of the offshore cranks give you .0032-.0035 - - not a disaster but more than I like.

The narrower or chamfered bearing will be OK on a normal crank. Its not really enough material to get excited about in a mild engine. On a cast crank you need to be certain that the polishing procedure is correct - - or you risk accelerated bearing wear.
