The tape will interfer with correct torque readings necessary for proper head and intake sealing.

Is it possible you missunderstood the person as me might have said to use teflon thread sealer. This is a paste used to seal the studs in the block and heads to prevent them from seezing and leaking.

On an intake, there may be water passages in the head sealed off and may need this paste. The paste is teflon based and is ALSO use to seal plumbing threads.

The problem with Silicon is it may drop small pieces into the lifter valley causing problems.
