my car had points in it when I bought it in 2002... They really have no place in a modern high performance engine. A good CD ignition will gain you 5-15 hp and your car will be less prone to misfire and will run cleaner, start and rev faster than a points system. It is the cheapest easiest most beneficial thing I have done to my car. You will notice a difference immediately.

Any 12 year old with a screwdriver and a dwell meter can set up a dual point distributor, be sure to use an advance timing light or distributor machine to dial in solid advance curve. You will want to to replace the advance springs in any case. 40 year old springs are weak and will not do what you want them to so when you need them to do it.
