I have a question along these lines. The vacuum assembly is still attached to the front of my distributor although no hose is connected. I'm sure for the same reason as you suggested while running the MSD box.
Can I remove that vacuum diaphragm assembly to make a little more room? If that's the case, will a simple plate be enough to keep out the dirt? Or will there be some other linkage attached, going into the distributor?
NEVER MIND, I took it apart and got my answer.
By the way, Morris, I also follow your build on the Gasholes.com quite often.
