It seems that grounding is the culprit 75% of the time on these cars. I was having trouble with left rear turn signal and brake light and finally narrowed down to the modular connections between the dash wiring harness and the harness that runs to the rear of the car on the left side.

I also like the trick where if your front right turn signal bulb is loose, the tail lights don't work. Sometimes I feel like I'm working on one of the @%#&^ christmas tree light strings!
