Do you have a return line to the fuel tank? What you described is what happenned to me the first few times I took my car out. As I drove more and the engine got hotter along with the day getting warmer, the pressure kept rising until the needle was all the way to the needle stop. Talked with Tom Kirkham and he mentioned that the fuel sitting in the line perhaps was getting heated up by the headers and engine. Probably close to vapor lock, which might explain why you couldn't get your car started right away. Something to think about and look into.
