I chose a nice 400-425hp built 390. Less cooling issues, strong as heck, and reliable. And the motor cost me less than 4k. Stock stroke, stock bore, forged pistons, mild cam. Using the Blue Thunder intake for the correct look with great performance also. I am not interested in high revs. I would much rather have strong low to mid range power, and I believe this motor will do the job for me.

In the future I will build a side oiler, just to have the "correct" motor in the car. But as other 390 owners have said, I might just wind up leaving this motor in the car for a long time.
Just joined the forum and this is my first post, usually just acquiring information but today, I saw this thread and had to ask, as this is what type of motor I am looking at rebuilding. I am really just looking to rebuild the motor, (mild lumpy idle), and a little more horsepower, than stock, not a high revving, high torque motor.

Power Surge, as your post best describes what I would like to build, would you provide some details about your motor, or do you have recommendations on what to replace. I purchased the rebuilding BB Ford book, to get familiarized with this project. Is there a difference between the auto and truck 390??

If anyone else has recommendations, please post as well.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all who reply..

cheers
