Default June 10th Trip Report to Joe's Summer Home

Although the rainy, damp, cooler than normal June 10th weather was not conducive to a long distance cobra drive, a dozen plus WCCC members braved the elements with their “daily drivers”, and enjoyed a fun filled day at Joe’s summer home. The aroma of freshly baked chocolate brownies, muffins, hot coffee greeted everyone on arrival and we enjoyed assorted fresh fruit and bakery goods thanks for Joe’s gracious hospitality. (Read: Joe’s daughters are really great cooks!) After breakfast, we left for Galena driving along several twisty, hilly county back roads, Hocking Hills Ohio type, complete with a scenic waterfall. (Everyone agreed that that we definitely must drive the route again in our cobras.) Galena is a very rustic river town complete with a unique shopping district, eclectic restaurants, bed and breakfasts, etc. as we spent several hours shopping or tasting at a local brewery. After a spirited drive back to Joe’s place, we spent some time lounging and telling stories at Joe’s spacious five-bedroom summer home overlooking the lake. While we were discussing our cars and LCS travels plans, Joe and his daughter’s prepared a veritable dinner feast. They not only cooked the requisite Italian pasta dish, but also grilled, sausage, brats, chicken, made several salads, etc. But dessert was to die for. Joe’s daughters made homemade tiramisu with real Italian mascarpone cheese. (You know what I’m saying if you’re Italian or enjoy Italian cooking. Did I mention that Joe’s daughters are really great cooks?) Everyone had a great time and fun filled day. My personal thank you to Joe and his daughters for their invitation, hospitality and the extra pounds I gained. But it was worth it.

We’re planning another cruise to Joe’s later this summer, hopefully warmer dry weather will prevail allowing some spirited cobra driving. So stay tuned and keep the tires on the road.
