Yes it's canton. For maintaince, none. Just make sure you run the car hot enough for the thermostat to open ever once in a while.
Changing oil, yes you will get some oil leaking from the lines when you remove the filter, but not a great deal. Most people say fill the filter with oil before installing a new one.
Biggest problem is changing oil, with remote oil filter / oil cooler / canton thermostat & canton sump I am at ~12qt. But when changing oil the thermostat is closed (because oil is cold) so you can't get to the ~1.5 qt's that's the other side of the thermostat (lines and oil cooler). You can disconnect a line and use an oil vacuum pump, but it's not worth the effort in my opinion. If you have a 12qt system, and replace 10qt's every ~3k miles I think you are perfectly fine.
