It won't cause any damage but if you're like me it will 1) cause you some embarrassement when you down shift or let off the gas and you hear a thunderous pop in front of the hot babe you were trying to impress and 2) over time it will cause some of your underhood aluminum to slowly turn a brownish tint from the exhaust fumes.

After trying numerous sealers to try and stop my slip fit exhaust leak (none of which lasted more than a month or so), I finally modified my sidepipes to permanently fix the problem. It involved 1) welding a 1 inch long piece of 3/8 in. stainless tube at the very end of the side pipe perpendicular to the sidepipe opening, 2) then notching the stainless tube and the side pipe with an angle grinder and 3) finally placing a nut and bolt through the SS pipe so the sidepipe clamps down on the header pipe. It's been several months now and it seems to have permanently fixed the problem.
