My plan is to install the inserts into the ends of the side pipes. 3 1/2 inch would fit. There is a good eight inches of length to work with, which I assume would be enough.

Can I expect an appreciable difference in the volume and sound quality?

Car is an Everett Morrison. They doubled the usual number of baffles, yet it remains really loud.
