It would be wise to run a couple ground straps from the frame to the engine. On mine, I ran a ground strap from each side of the frame to the rear of each cylinder head.

As for your starter, you should have two posts. Usually the larger post gets the heavy battery cable...the other post gets the signal from the ignition switch....it's a lighter gauge wire.
