BTW, I have one of two of those VW relays as well. They are always going out. They work for about four months and then somehting goes bad and they die.
I hope you are talking about the 70 AMP, big lug, plug in unit that was common on most 60s and 70s VWs for electrical control.
Can you post a pic of the relay? I will see if I have one you can have.
