I'm adding a Vortec to my Backdraft carburated 5.0, going with a Pro-Systems Blow Thru carb which came highly recommended. Damn, this would have been easier with a build sheet on the motor, but, it is what it is. Motor is a Keith Craft short block (306). Edelbrock Performer heads, there are a
couple of choices here, slight difference in the intake valve size.
Edelbrock Air Gap intake, Edelbrock performer cam. +/- 9.3 to 1 CR. I also have a Holley electric fuel pump. Car is making 305 RWHP now. I've filled
out the tech sheet from Pro-Systems so they can send me the carb
that best fits my motor specs and what I'm trying to accomplish.
Next, Vortec Supercharger. I'm going with the polished one to keep
with the look of the car and motor (shiny).
What else am I going to need?????
1) Pro-Systems Blow Thru Carb +/- $900. I'll have a Holley 600 for
sale afterwards.
2) Vortec SC $1900
I have a MSD distributor. How is timing advance/retard handled? How is the boost setting handled. According to KC Motors, keep it under 8psi the motor should be fine. Getting close to pulling the trigger and getting this started.
