Actually, the "classic" definition of a roadster is a convertible with no roll up side windows (side curtains).
It's about the windows (or lack of them!), not the operation of the top. In the same vein, a cabriolet is a convertible with roll up side windows. (Now called a convertible).
These "classic" definitions have been skewed somewhat by modern automakers incorrectly identifying their cars as "roadsters".
