You also need to consider the bellhousing you have. I had an original Ford cast iron housing and switched to a Lakewood scatter shield when I put in my TKO 600. The Lakewood is 1/2" shallower (ie the tranny is 1/2" closer to the engine) than the Ford housing.
This will obviously also change the location of the mouting bolts on the tail housing and, as said, move the shifter forward.
I also installed a roller bearing instead of a brass bushing in the flywheel, and the bearing is more difficult to get the input shaft into than the bushing.
Mike Forte was a big help - available on the phone, had all the parts, including adapters to deal with the issue of the tailhousing mount moving forward. I would strongly suggest giving him a call and talking it through. He knows all the tricks of the Tremecs in Cobras.
