You're joking right?! The CA DMV could care less about real vs replica. All they care about is raking in the tax money and keeping older engines off of the street. That's what the specially constructed lottery is all about.

As for vintage plates, it's my understanding that vintage plates are only allowed on vehicles manufactured prior to 1964. That doesn't include replicas. Unless of course you manage to somehow get your registered as a 1963 and then watch out because if they catch you there will be 'll to pay!
