John,

I used a Muncie trans in my car when I first built it. It was OK with the tall rear end 3.31 to 1 until I put a wild solid lifter cam in it. Then, it was difficult to start from a stop smoothly. It was still a really good close ratio track gearbox. With the straight through 4th gear, it caused the engine to constantly rev high on the freeway. I bought a Tremec 5 speed to replace it and adapted it to my old 350 engine. It was SO much better! A much lower first gear for easy launches and 5th gear for cruising 80 mph @ 2,500 rpm.
