Wait till they ask you for the registration and title MONEY!
Oddly, as of 12/20, I have my registration entirely cleared up and in fact have applied a "2008" sticker on my license plate.

This whole setup was a 3 month hell at the DMV. I was expecting to be at the DMV this year, no more than 3 or 4 times. I've been there 6 times!

The most agonizing moment of the registration process was the Brake & Lamp Inspection and certification. I recommend to anyone, though our network of friends, to get in touch with one that's done component cars/SPCNS on a more regular basis. The short story to mine: spent 6 f*(&(&'in hours at "GreenSlip" and all I got was my brake certificate. They wanted two backup lamps. At another station, the "regular" guy that does Superformance's, wasn't around and their lackies indicated I might need a "third eye". I mounted some temporary backup lamps and got my Lamp Certificate because it was less expensive ($10 total) ; HINT: if your Jan 2nd paper work doesn't say you need B&L Inspection, consider yourself blessed and don't say a word to the DMV.

As far as BAR: if you get a hold of someone that's done these before, it should not be a big deal. The first thing I asked was how many he's done; he said this year, I was number 6 but it averages around 9 per year at the facility I went to. I was in and out in 45 minutes. He had the students look at the fuel cap, check oil, presence of a PCV, even checked my tach (well, that was me, trying to see how accurate it was compared to their equipment.)

Of that 45 minutes, the supervisor was really interested in the book I brought (Cobra archives) and spent 10 minutes photo copying the pictures in the book. Really nice fellow.

All I can say is, never go to GreenSlip in Sunnyvale.
