You have two choices:

1. Take your title to the DMV and fill out a request for "Title Correction", which I believe is the same form as the "New Title" (124?). From there you will need a CHP Vin verification, maybe a brake and lamp inspection, and you will need to get your SPF smogged certified - either by year of block or thru SB100 (next year).

2. Contact the Involuntary Title department of the DMV in Sacramento, and they have a complete process to re-title your SPF - HOWEVER, it will be far more laborious, since they will require a complete statement of construction, in order to determine whether your SPF meets the definition of Specially Constructed (you may be required to contact the previous and/or original owner for complete documentation). If the DMV agrees that your SPF is an SPCNS, then you will go thru the same process above, however a bond maybe required (about 1->1.5% of the value of your SPF). Also, the CHP may be instructed to issue you a new VIN, as opposed to using your existing VIN.

At the end of the day, however, the DMV may find that your SPF was originally titled as a 1965 and force you to go thru #2 above, even if you have already gone thru #1 above - this happened to me.

Good luck,
