I think the temperature lapse rate is 2 degrees per thousand. 
We live about a thousand feet higher than the valley. Between the heat sink effect, the slighly higher elevation and the swamp cooler effect from the golf course we are generally 5-6 degrees cooler than the temp. reported at the airport.
