CSX3014 crossed the auction block in Monterey at RM in August 2004...

...lookin' like a plain ol' S/C

Lot # 255 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Competition Roadster; S/N CSX3014; Red/Black; Estimate $600,000 - $700,000; Competition restoration, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $570,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $627,000 -- Chrome paperclip roll-bar, chrome headers and side exhausts, 6-spoke Hali-brand knockoff alloy wheels, Goodyear Blue Streaks, fire system, dual 6-volt batteries behind the passenger's seat. Restored to better than new condition with some stone chips from use and track dirt in corners. An original Competition 427, raced by Dick Terrell to SF Region championship in 1968. Originally raced in Black with full width rollbar, white side exhausts and no quick jack points but unfortunately restored in generic Cobra S/C configuration so its original identity is obscured. This is what it costs to own "the real thing", but it would be gratifying to see it put back into 1968 configuration. As it is, it looks like any other 427 Cobra and squanders its history to look like something it isn't.

I have private pics of the car from 1997 and it looked then about as it does now.
