WOW...this has really turned into a "spirited discussion". Let me tell you where I am and maybe I can answer some questions after I visit the DMV.
I put my FFR on the road in Kalifornia April 2002. I believe it was the first year for the SB100. I went through all the registration issues everyone has since that time and had no trouble getting the title and license. The title reads Make: "SPCNS" YR: 2002, Date first sold: 00/00/0000. Class: FH, Body type: CV. I have been insured by AON Collector Car Insuance since that time.
Now the challenge. I called AON to have them transfer my address and coverage to AZ. The are no longer accepting new policies for Collector Cars. Even though I am a current customer they are going to cancel my insurance and will not issue me a new policy.
Thanks to Fitz (on this message string) I called Chubb Insurance and I'm in the process of getting new coverage for less than I was paying before. Now $225 per year for $0.00 deductible.
I am asking my old company to give me proof of insurance with my new AZ address. They gave me 30 days to get new insurance. With that proof I'm sure I can walk into the DMV and ask for AZ title and registration.
At this point I'm not sure what to expect. I think I will take the position of answering their questions after handing my old registration to them with a description of the car (1965 AC Ford Cobra replica). My back up plan to just to keep it registered in CA, although the fee is about $200. Not sure what to expect here.
However, I'd like to thank you guys for your comments and information. I was able to a good lead from Fitz on a new insurance carrier. (Thanks FItz).
