Default ERA 287 Emission Exemption

The car has been registered in Ct since 2001, (guess because of all the problems of getting Agbar up and running) I received notice last year (2006) that emissions testing was in my future . Engine is a very healthy std. bore 427 SO Single 780 cfm holley HP. No way am I going to pass with the new specs . First of all getting the computor to recogonize the motor was impossible, so they bypassed the system The premise was to get it to meet spec at the criteria for 2006 vehicles, off idle reading for pollutants @ 3000 rpm and then at curb idle 1000 rpm. The tests were run three times each time the car was well within specs at 3000 rpm , But coming down to curb this is where the CO went out each time (not huge amount but out). Next step; call in the top guys from Wethersfield who deal with composite emissions issues. Scheduled a date to meet at Test Site. They arrived promptly at the appointed time two very unassuming gentlemen yet very knowledgable. They reviewed the test data verifyed that the motor was a FE and wrote a 2-year Exemption. Which in 2008 I will see how the process has changed (they both felt the process would be better with the input and the knowledge base they were developing. Hope this sooths some frayed nerves
