New member here with a question on this topic. I'm looking to buy an unfinished Contemporary with the engine and surge tank already installed. Every replica I've seen in person and every photo of one show the surge tank high up in the engine bay, while the one in the CC I'm looking at is down low by the bottom of the radiator. I thought the surge tank was to act as an accumulator for excess coolant as things heated up and expanded, so you would want it to be the highest part of the cooling system so that compressable air would be at the top of the tank. Will someone give me an expert opinion? Thanks.
