Still looking for a way to get this done!

Why did you have to pay sales tax in California? Did you just buy the car from someone in Washington and bring it directly to California? Seems to me that you should pay tax in the state in which you purchased the car, if there is any tax. If I buy something in Arizona, I pay the tax there and not in California if I bring it back here. Maybe with cars it is different? Anyone know the answer here. It just seems funny that California benefits from an out of state sale!
