The 406 is a solid lifter only block (not drilled for hyd.) the list says Hyd. lifters.

The 406 and 428 both shared the same bore size, 4.130". They both were "based" on the 390, which was based on the 352, and the 332.
The 427 is like a bored out 406, and the 428 is like a stroked 406.

DO YOU WANT A BIG BLOCK LOOK AND SMALL BLOCK REVS?? - this is a racing engine 406 .030 over designed to rev like a 351 and run like a big block (well it IS a big block) you can cream ricers with this 500 hp 525 ft lb* (max hp with victor jr intake and electronic ignition) monster that will rev to 6500 before it starts to droop. this engine has a special racing 427 ford crank 3.78" stroke and heavy duty 390/428 rods and forged pistons. the cam is a radical 427 FE unit that sports 308 duration with .605 lift. it is fitted with a set of remachined ported "R" heads as big as a 428 - compression is 10:1 - 12:1 yr pref. The block is a blueprinted rev 105 heavy duty FE bored to 4.13. featuring thick cylinder walls and a 3rd web in the mains. it will fit any early ford that used a big block FE including a cobra. we even installed one in a fox body mustang. a 4bbl 390 hipo intake is included, as well as an electronic ignition and plugs and wires with a reworked holley 4bbl double pumper carb. chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner finish out the package. it will look similar to the picture but the pic is not the one you get - it isnt completed enough for pictures yet, leaving you some wiggle room. it can be finished out to look like the picture. call me for more info 317-250-3320 or email for a complete listing of parts actually used. * the figures are from desktop dyno and reflect maximum possible hp and not neccessarily the hp you will get. hp is not warranted - the engine is warranted for defects and workmanship but not for usability or misuse.
Well, if the engine is bored out to 4.130", then I would think theblock was originally a 390, stock 4.050" bore. Although some 390's can be overbored 0.080", I don't think there are that many that could be overbored 0.110", to 4.160". So is the engine block an originqal 428 bored out 0.030, or a 390 block bored out to 4.130". My guess, being that it may not be that clear, is that the block is a 428 block bored out 0.030 to 4.160, for a displacement of 411.02 ", about 410.
