I run a 9" with limited slip (OEM clutch type). If you have the option to convert it to 31 spline do so. It will require different axles but is easy to do by replacing the side gears in the differential assembly. If you are starting with a complete rear end that will have to be narrowed you will be glad you made the upgrade (to 31 spline) down the road, especially if you like to step up the horsepower. Limited slip is very street friendly.
